Dominick the Donkey
I've had this song stuck in my head all Christmas season - Dominick the Donkey (the Italian Christmas Donkey). Have you ever heard the song? I'm from the midwest, and I'd never heard it until I moved out East. The first time I heard it, I would have sworn the lyrics were "it's time to lick the donkey" - only later (after looking up the lyrics on the web) did I find out the lyrics actually were "it's Dominick the donkey". It really is a hilarious song. I found a site nice enough to add a loop of the music to the lyrics. I hope I can infect your brain with this wonderful (wonderfully strange) Christmas song! Check it out. Dominick the Donkey.

Simple joys in life
I'm always amazed at how my cats are entertained by the simpliest of things. Of course they don't want to play with the fancy motorized toys I get them - they want to play in a cardboard box or with a crumpled piece of aluminum foil. Here is a perfect example of such simple enjoyment.
I put a bird feeder right outside one of my living room windows. My cats will spend hours waiting and watching for the birds to come and dangle from the feeder. I didn't realize a simple bird feeder would give them such happiness. I wish I could find a similar parallel in my life. It seems we go though life needing more and more complex toys to entertain us - email, IPods, DVDs, etc. Remember when we were kids and a mud puddle was all we needed to have fun? I feel like I have to simplify my life and look for that foil ball to play with.

Karaoke
How many people out there love karaoke? I know, I know - it is a much hated pastime. I happen to be pretty good at singing, so I love it! It gives me a chance to sing somewhere other than my shower. I really hate going to karaoke bars where a bunch of drunk people attempt sing, but just succeed in making fools of themselves. But I also hate singers that obviously deserve a recording contract who hog the mic, ang proceed to blow everyone away with their amazing voices. I think secretly I am one of these people, but I hate being upstaged by someone better than me. I love singing the classics - Carole King, Rickie Lee Jones, Pointer Sisters, etc. All this talk of karaoke - maybe I'll have to go to a karaoke bar tonight! Check me out - I'm on fire!

New Kitty!
Being the karaokekitty, I obviously have a love of cats. This weekend I got a new kitty. She's soooo cute.
A tiny 8-10 week old muted tortie tabby. She's really sweet. My older male brown tabby is having a moderately ok time getting used to her. Of course there was some hissing and a little cat slapping, but nothing major. By the end of the first day, the big kitty was licking the baby's head - a very good sign. It's so fun having a new kitty in the house. It's crazy to think that she might be with me for the 15 years or so!

Gaelic Phrases
I saw this link through another friends blog and decided to take this quiz on which Irish Gaelic Phrase are you. The quiz was surprisingly fitting for me.
Take the quiz: "Which Random Irish Gaelic Phrase Are You? "

Is maith liom bananai
Is maith liom bananai - 'I like bananas.'You're laid-back and you enjoy the simple things in life. Some might say you're a little too laid-back. Just what is it you're smoking, anyway?
